WHAT IS ENLIGHTENMENT
Discover the multiple functionalities of Enlightenment. (DR17 Specifications "www.enlightenment.org")

Enlightenment 0.17 is the next generation of UNIX graphical environments. It is not just a window manager, but also a desktop shell. A desktop shell includes, a window manager, a file manager, plus configuration utilities. They are not separated as with most graphical environments. Now, let's take a closer look at all the E17 features...

Extremely High Performance
Enlightenment is fast. No, really. It's fast. It is known to run one very slow machines (e.g. 100 MHz CPU, 64 MB of RAM) well. So you really don't need a modern pc to see some eye-candy and to use a modern graphical environment. Even more - you can control how fast you want it by using the Performance configuration panel to change the mask settings and more.

Eye Candy A Higher Level.
The high performance does not mean a loss of eye candy. The eye candy that you experience will rival any seen before. 1/ ELBUNTU
Elbuntu is a Live-CD that is based on the Ubuntu Feisty Fawn, developed and maintained by Elbuntu Team.

Life isn't fair. All not all distro's are created equal. Some are boring, others not as configurable as we want. Then we have Enlightenment, the window manager for the rest of us.
So why not have the eye-candy and configurability of Enlightenment, with the clean and beautiful design of Ubuntu Linux?

Elbuntu is a project aiming towards that goal.

Elbuntu is based on the Ubuntu distro, but provides Enlightenment DR17. The objective of the Elbuntu community project is to provide the maximum eye candy for the end-user using the Enlightenment DR17 window manager and the related libraries.

Elbuntu doesn't contain Gnome , but only graphic libs. All the Enlightenment based software are included in the distro. Elbuntu is fast , like the E17 window manager.

Elbuntu uses the live/install CD method. To go towards making a live cd, E17 packages have been uploaded at http://e17.dunnewind.net

Ebuntu aims to provide an enhanced and attractive user-interface. The secondary aim of Elbuntu is to show off the eye-candy capabilites of the linux operating system in general and Ubuntu in particular

Some of the applications integrated into Enlightenment:

Extrackt
Extrackt is an ETK based audio CD ripper and encoder tool. It has a lot of settings, and extra features
Exhibit
Exhibit is year Image viewer using Etk. Its GUI is like GQview' S, goal with additional features. It looks great, it' S fast, and easy to uses.
Eclair
Eclair is an audio and video player. It's themeable, and uses Edje for its GUI.
Currently it doesn't have a menu because it's being rewritten using ETK. But you can drag'n'drop files to the playlist.
Estickies
Estickies is an ETK based app that allows you to put virtual notes on your desktop.

And soon Network Manager, Media Center…

Addition to the native applications of Enlightenment.
A selection of applications were selected for their speed and their effectiveness.

PCMan File Manager
An extremly fast and lightweight file manager which features tabbed browsing and user-friendly interface.
Pidgin
Instant messaging supporting protocols AIM, MSN, Yahoo! , Jabber, ICQ, IRC, SILC, Gadu-Gadu, etc…
XMMS
XMMS is a multimedia player for unix systems. XMMS stands for X MultiMedia System and can play media files such as MP3, MOD's, WAV and others with the use of Input plugins.
VLC Player Media
Media Player of reference. It supports a large number of multimedia formats, without the need for additional codecs
AbiWord
A fast and powerful text processing. AbiWord is a word processing program similar to Microsoft® Word. It is suitable for a wide variety of word processing tasks.
Firefox
The award-winning Web browser is now faster, more secure, and fully customizable to your online life. With Firefox 2, we’ve added powerful new features that make your online experience even better.
Liferea
Liferea is an aggregator for online news feeds.
XChat
XChat is an IRC chat program of reference. It allows you to join multiple IRC channels (chat rooms) at the same time, talk publicly, private one-on-one conversations etc. Even file transfers are possible.

Elbuntu is not an official Ubuntu project yet.

LIVE CD

Warning
Live CD elbuntu-livecd-gutsy-0.1.iso for development and testing.
This Live CD is not functional for an everyday usage because some functionalities are not yet implemented.

The sticker of CD Elbuntu is a creation of Ndjee. You can download it.

What has been done till now
Quite a lot / not much yet. It depends on your point of view. The package files are ready. It's working for us without any major problems.

E17Blog are dedicated to the graphical environment Enlightenment (version CVS) deployed on Ubuntu Dapper Drake, Edgy Eft, Feisty Fawn and Gutsy Gibbon.

Enlightenment is a fast , eye-candy window manager for the X windows system. As it is always in development, and there is no release, the main dev doesn't want to add it in the Ubuntu repositories.

Anyway, Albin Tonnerre (Lutin) packages himself the Enlightenment DR17 applications / libraries. This repository is hosted by dunnewind.net.

This repository allows you to install :

A Login Manager (Entrance)
A lot of EFL app's (image viewer, audio player)
Some module as CPU viewer, clock, icon bar ...
