HowTo Install Enlightenment on Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon - Josir

Hi, I tried the installation on Ubuntu Hardy but I lost the graphical start login. I tried with enlightenment-start but I got:

"Enlightenment cannot initialize its X connection
Have you set your DISPLAY variable?"

Do you have any tip on how to solve it?

If you like MPD, then maybe you should try out XMMS2. It's more or less the plans of MPD2 (development started without the two projects knowing of eachother for the first two years).

Not sure how updated it is.... but puzzles on #xmms2 @ freenode knows more.

And there already are ubuntu xmms2 packages. But Gutsy doesn't have the latest version.

Ubuntu JeOS, sudo aptitude install xserver-org and then following the instructions above gets me elbuntu :-)

I installed Ubuntu JeOS, and then followed the directions. After re-starting Ubuntu JeOS, I did not get a login screen. Do I need xorg installed before trying to get enlightenment to work? I tried using the liveCD in a virtualbox environment, but it would not boot in that environment.

When trying to install e17 from the terminal from this repo I get a broken packages error. It says

"e17:
Depends: enlightenment (>=0.16.999) but it is not installable
Depends: emodules-all but it is not going to be installed

I am trying to obtain the latest updates to e17, but I just found out, edevelop has been closed... so I change to the dunnewind repos and I get these messages:

Hi,
indeed, there was a build error. This will be updated in the next upload.
You can use packages from feisty section, they are exactly the same. Just change gusty by feisty in your sources.list

The gutsy i386 e17 repository seems broken; In the repo at ubuntu/pool/gutsy/e17/i386/ all the packages are listed as -amd64
Also after adding the repo to sources.list
and a sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install e17 finds no package.
sudo apt-get install enlightenment finds a package, but its e16 I believe. However, it won't install as enlightenment-data is from e17.

Looking in synaptic the latest versions of packages seems to be 16.7.2-5 for enlightenment, though enlightenment-data/enlightenment-them
is 16.999,040.
